I have a 250GB Samsung 840 Evo acting as my C:\ and a 2TB HDD as my D:\ . I used regedit to point all newly installed programs to install directly on my 2TB D Drive. I installed a Samsung 850 Pro after cloning it using the Samsung CD that came with it and a USB to SATA adapter cable. When I installed the new drive I disconnected my old C: and my old D: The drive booted no problem and all my configurations were on there but when I tried to access Device Manager I got this error message "The specified path does not exist: Please check the path and try again" I started poking around but it seems anything that required admin permissions gives me the same error. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the Samsung software from the CD but after clicking on it nothing happened.

Is this just the security preventing my new drive from configuring the system? Or does editing the registry prevent new hardware from accessing the admin paths?

Make sure you have your old D: drive reconnected first, as it can cause a path does not exist error, which has nothing to do with security and everything to do with it can't find what it's looking for. If that isn't the cause, you may have to "repair" your OS install. The registry hacks may have played a role in this, but they might not have either.
