Fiber optic into hotel. Small hotel 30 rooms. Fiber optic cable already run to the rooms. Currently using switch with cat5 cables into the rooms. Trying to find way to get fiber optic signal into switch and fiber optic cables out to rooms. then adapt to ethernet connections in room. Want to allocate bandwith to each room to 10mbps. hope there is an answer. Gracias

So I guess the question is I have 3 separate 200mbps services into to building-would i need to have three switches to allocate to each room. if combined would it be 200+200+200=200?

Why would you run fiber optic to rooms inside a building especially when you want to limit the speed. Fiber optic generally is only used when you have a distance problem or when you need high speed like 10g which used to be hard to carry on copper.

In any case it is done the same way. You will place a central switch with 30 optical ports. You then place a media converter which is basically a 2 port switch in each room. It has 1 fiber port and one copper port.

Now you could use the older 10mbit optics to limit the speed but most switches that support optical modules also have the ability to limit traffic. So you would still run 1gbit optics to the rooms but in the switch you would set data restrictions so the switch drops all traffic over a certain rate. It is called policing in most switches that support it.

If you have not replaced this I would stay with the copper cable
