I have TWC/Spectrum for my ISP. I pay for 200 down/20 up. My Apple Airport Extreme took a shit after 3 years and I'm looking at getting a new wireless router. The only Apple devices I currently own are an iPhone and an iPad (which is NEVER used). I'm not set on another Apple router, but it treated me well, was easy to setup and has a good utility. I have no budget. My house is small (1400sqft). Looking for a reliable, well-built router that will last a while. Needs to be easy to setup with good options available. I haven't had too many problems with the TWC provided modem but if I can buy a better one and save $10/mo on my cable bill I will. Looking for the best router and modem for my needs. Thanks for any advice/opinions.

Call TWC. It's a safe bet they'll have a wireless modem that'll handle any wireless needs you have, keep paying the $10 a month and then you'll either have time to save up for your own or may end up not needing one. I pay fory Comcast wireless dual band modem, does me right with multiple apple and android/TV/Xbox added and every time it's broke, slowed down, needed an upgrade etc, it's on them, I don't need to buy new. It's theirs, they can fix/replace it. $10 a month is cheap insurance. After 10 years with Comcast I'm on my 6th modem. 3 due to lightning strikes, 3 upgrades. At close to $100 for a decent modem, I'm good with that.

I have both as well, but I hard wired the bedrooms (6 of them) so I use the modem for my 2x masters and the router for the other 4. TV, Xbox, phones, iPad etc is all wireless, TV dedicated on 1 5GHz, my phone / printer on the other, xbox/b-ray on 1 2.4GHz and the rest on the other 2.4GHz. So I understand. But I have the equipment to fill those slots.

Dunno who Joex444 was, but that's lame to vote down an answer and not even leave one of his own.

For these criteria, I like Asus routers. The RT-AC68U was cutting edge a few years ago and is now not as pricey as many newer ones, Yet is much faster than your ISP.

@Pooneil, I've always loved Asus products. I haven't used a different motherboard manufacturer for myself nor my clients since the mid-late 90s. You said "Yet is much faster than your ISP." My previous router was not ISP-provided, it was an Apple Airport Extreme. What did you mean by that exactly? I'll check out the AC68U, though. Are they easy to setup? I use Netgear routers for all of my clients because they're cheap, and if they break can easily be replaced. I'm looking for something to last 3-5 years or more. This is a home router and it's only my roommate and myself so we only have 4-5 devices connected at a time.
