Please help this is not a thing about AA settings.Overnight this started happening on my Asus older laptop with 860m. OVERNIGHT. I've since bought the 970m, and now an even bigger overclocked 6gb 1060 to make sure this would go away, and it's still happening. Haven't been able to play games etc. because I know it's displaying wrong! I look at friends with LOWER and same Nvidia cards playing SOO freaking beautiful, how can you tell me it's because I'm picky about some aliasing, NO/! This is some problem or Nvidia file making games not play graphically good at all. OR, it's a specific build/setup of Windows 10 that is messing with the disply properties of these Nvidia cards. I have heard an intelligent opinion once about screen "acne", and also that there may be a missing file in the NVidia folders that get hidden in windows 10. I would love to hear from others as I have seen display models at the Best Buy store having this problem(no joke) and it must be becoming more widespread. If we all take aserious look to address this issue we can help wayyy many fellow gamers guy, please help;)
p.s., This is not reffering to NORMAL shimmering around bushes etc. I know EXACTLY what the normal aspects of all these things do typically look like, this is...different. It's as if it's not rendering the objects "fully" in the games/videos. It cannot process the edges and shadows so it shows up as kind of thick lines around objects, shimmering you've heard about also, which is blurry and real noticeable I know one video that is of fireworks. So your display would show the cool tight crisp colors, this problem makes it a blurry mess, but other times oversharpens and causes jagged lines on the edges as if no AA of any sort is being applied to the video, even though that is the case sometimes that there is none, this is much worse as I've seen how all this looks on side-by-sides with "working" laptops..

Are the generic pnp monitor settings with the old 2006 driver still workable for todays graphics cards, something need changing there(probably not). Are there hertz or "hidden" display setting that I don't know about? Kind of like when you update a driver and the resolution defaults to a diff. one(like 1280x1024) and there's another one I'm missing...Are there Nvidia Cuda files, or backend, tray files that need a separate download(don't think so). Facts: my 860m card worked pretty decent one day, the next this problem hit everything, I can even point out it's effect in browser videos as things like a persons facial profile in news videos are jagged blurry(not from buffering OR aliasing settings). O.k., this also happened when I bought new asus with 970m card, and now the 1060 6gb.Fact: these have all been Asus laptops. Fact: I've heard others with same issue talk about possibly with ATI cards or something, but me inparticular have all been Nvidia, on Asus'. Fact: With half an asus driver installed, and half the newest from Nvidia website (376.33), I did a factory reset and deleted TMP keys I believe it asked me if I wanted to remove them or cancel, I removed them, and wo-la it came back and was acting beautiful like you couldn't belive!! SO I DO KNOW how a laptop like this will run when working normall, and trust me I have no prob with the display whatsoever, I quickly downloaded Watch Dogs 2 overnight and came back around noon following day, booted up, started the game, and was in the menus. So I get all the sweet video settings I like and started setting up control bindings for keyboard, got thirsty and stepped away to grab a drink & check some things..When I come back I notice the background video looking all choppy and oh-no, there it was ALL back again, the shimmering, BAD type resolution, small flickering lines that aren't rendering/aliasing correctly, you name it. And those who KNOW this problem know exactly what I'm talking about. My only hope is that one day, there will be a patch for this & we can all talk about this bad experience we "once" had for a long time while others seem not to at all. oh, p.s. one more quick fact: Not a virus(to another poster I ran into) who talked about scrapping his laptopcause he thought this was one, nope, it's on brand new ones now too..(75pp for solution)

So I broke down and installed this software that came with the laptop. It's called Avast. I didn't realize I was going to have to pay for it, but I've been trying everything at this point and wth.. The strange thing is it DID help...some. I would say it's helped the performance anyway, and now all of a sudden I DO get the G-sync icon in the Steam application which I did NOT before. So, I've made "some" progress on this mess. Although, the actual visual problem seems to have stuck around, but it's nice having the extra performance. I am afraid since this one is brand new(again) to try and download any new Nvidia driver(yet), but am thinking should I go ahead and try the latest build with all updates in Windows 10..Now I have done this before though it was with messy driver files still all around, and now I've gotten partly there I'm kind of nervous, but I DID make a backup/recovery of the way it is right now. I am on an Asus GL702VM with the overclocked 6gb 1060 and uh 12gb memory, but like I said this all really started with an older 860m, and I've made my way up here trying to fix this exact problem. Thanks if you've been listening, any advice is good advice for me, trust me, and will gladly pp anyone for a real&working solution, until then, gg..

I have gone through three laptops looking for a working solution. What I have learned is, that it is not a physical problem, or graphics card problem. It happens once Windows does a first connection to online and updates and links your windows account online again. SO IT IS WINDOWS CHANGING SOME ASPECT OF THE PC, I WISH I did not connect again online cause I had it working beautiful, what I learned is next new pc, NOT to let it touch that Windows account ever again, new laptop, new windows account next time for sure. I can NOT believe there is not yet a solution to what this issue is coming from. It sure seems to affect enough people..
**By the way, this started on an 860m Nvidia, and is now on my 1070 8gb as well. So it does not discriminate models, and is one hundred percent a WINDOWS/NVIDIA configuration issue, it seems to be connecting our windows setttings with the Nvidia card improperly, or leaving something out it shouldn't be. I have tried a bunch of different settings etc., but honestly too afraid to try some of these bigger things cause they can mess ya up even more so I'm not sure yet where to go from here..

Gotten very close but not a real solution yet, I am using a 1070 now and have found its got to do definitely with after updating with with win 10, even though it STICKS once on your system as I've tried re-installs with no updates its just there now. I am determined to find the registry line or file problem that causes this issue & will update, please do the same

Have you tried uninstalling windows 10 and going back to windows 8? I just built a new pc about 2 weeks ago and am having the same issue with my 1070, it just boggles me that there isn't a fix for this. I will search like you said to.

I was able to get it once by using ddu the half installing a driver, and then restoring to factory settings, but at the time I wasn't aware windows update caused the problem and once it got online it came back after an update.. I since always use metered connection until I'm ready to download updates in the meantime.. But have been unable to reproduce it again, so not entirely sure HOW it did that one time. Will be sure to post any newer info here in the future.
That was meant:
1-use DDU-DEVICE DRIVER UNINSTALLER.
2-HALF INSTALL INTENDED GRAPHIC DRIVER.
3-RESTORE FACTORY SETTING, OR REFRESH/RESTORE.
*BUT like I said, that was only one time, and not since. Worth a try maybe for you.

What do you mean by half install the driver you want? And what are you restoring to factory settings, are you talking about nvidia control panel or windows 10 settings?
