Required Graphics Card For HTC Vive

Im considering getting a HTC Vive and I was wondering if my graphics card is good enough.

The recomended graphics card is a GTX 970 but I have a GTX 980M will it still work?

not to mention the other heat/power issues that come from having a laptop

Is it possible to upgrade the graphics card to a high enough mobile to be able to run it? Say like a 1080m then would it balance out to around 980?

I've heard alienware laptops have replaceable graphics cards, but i'm not sure.

By the way, since the gtx 10xx generation there are no more laptop GPUs, they put +- the same desktop gpus in laptops.

GTX 970, GTX 1060 or RX 480 is the minimum requirement for Virtual Reality experience. Sadly, your laptop does not meet the requirements.

I would immediately like to say that YES YOU CAN USE A 980M I understand this post is very old but yet everyone made you seem that you needed to steer clear of the 980m series card when in fact it can run practically EVERY VR GAME, I have yet to find a game unplayable by my graphics card. The thing you need from what ive been sensing is a good CPU im using an intel core i7-6820HK CPU 2.70GHz overclocked to 3.67GHz. So in short yes you can use a 980M and play to your hearts content even on high settings in a lot of games.
