Hello

I was thinking to build a compact and silence 4k gaming build. I don't have a big budget to play with but I know the GPU i want to buy is a gtx 1070 which costs around 370 pounds and I'd prefer that my entire budget build to not surpass 650 pounds. And the budget I'll cut it in half, the first part now, all working without gpu and next month the gpu.

I was thinking what budget cpu I should get along with the rest of items for such short budget and to not be any sort of bottlenecks.

Found a nice offer for an old gaming rig. i5 2500k ,8gb ram, gtx 660ti. For around 330 pounds.
I was thinking to buy and try to sell the gpu, but I don't know if the old gaming rig is worth it. I know the 2500k is a potent cpu and I think there will be little or no bottleneck on the 1070, but i'm not sure those hardware are up for what I'm planning for the future. An M.2 samsing 951 ssd.

Open to any suggestions.

Would certainly be cheaper if high fps and ultra graphics aren't your thing.

The 3570k comes with a stock cooler, so no real need to buy one unless you intend to overclock.

A 3570k will still bottleneck a 1070 to an extent. At 4k I admit it may not bad as bad as your fps would be lower.. http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-3192807/ultimate-bottlenecking-guide.html

That's also not a great quality PSU (Tier 3) but as long as you arent doing any serious OCing it should be okayish - http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html?_ga=1.151155836.499395850.1474638331

8gb RAM isnt really enough either. You'd be better off going for a more balanced...

I can safely say the motherboard in that 2nd hand gaming system will not suppport a M.2 ssd. Unless you plan to use an add in PCI-E card with a M.2 slot.. but then you may have problems booting on older an BIOS. It might be actually impossible to have a system drive on such an old setup.

An i5 2500k should in theory be a good match for a GTX1070.. in that, i don't believe you will experience bottlenecks.

Also, it should be able to run games at 4k.. I'm not sure of framerates.. but usually i find reviews are a little stringent on what they find acceptable at a given resolution. Most would say 40 fps is unplayable. That might be the case for some, but personally, I'd be not too bothered if it was 30 40 or 60 fps. The main thing is if you think it looks good.

I would also add, a normall 950 evo or pro ssd would, despite major benchmark differences, hardly be that noticable in real world usage.
A couple of seconds here and there.

For 60Hz gaming the 2500k should still be reasonable. Running a higher resolution makes no difference to cpu load. I'd expect a 2500k to bottleneck a 1070 @ 1080/1440p when running high fps but at 4k your looking at 60fps or less so any bottleneck should be negligible.

I just think a 1070 isn't really enough GPI power.

Only newer AAA games and bad console ports will struggle to get 60fps at 4k, and that's with ultra settings etc. Most slightly older games will run a lot higher with medium settings.

The 2500k will bottleneck a 1070 at pretty much any resolution imo.

i5 3570k is nice aswell. 22nm and a bit faster. With hight clocks maybe it should be enough for 4k gaming.

I look for steady 30 fps on 4k( I dont push everything to the max) or 1440p with nice textures @ 45 fps.

as for the gtx 1080 its a bit over my budget.

8gb RAM isnt really enough either. You'd be better off going for a more balanced system imo, and get an RX480 or GTX 1060 with better parts elsewhere. Aim for 1440p 3k max with that budget.
