ok so i am thinking to upgrade my GPU and do minor overclocking,
probably getting an rx480 8gb or gtx 1060 6gb so i figured i need a better power supply,

so my question is:

1. what's your oppinion about my current PSU? Chieftec GPA-500S8, 500W
2. what power supply should i get?

here are some guidelines/additional questions to help you with suggestions:

1. Modular or non modular doesn't matter (price is more important)
2. I heard sesonic/corsair are really good, but are they worth the money? (am i gona have to pay for brand name? If so are there any brands that are as good but doesn't cost so much).
3. I want a good power supply thats reliable, not the absolutly best one for 200$

PC: CASE: Havana 535R with 2x 120mm case fans
CPU: Intel Core i5-6600, Quad Core, 3.30GHz, Stock cooling
MB: MSI H110M PRO-VD
RAM: CORSAIR DDR4 2133MHZ 1x8GB
GPU: ASUS GTX950 2GB GDDR5, stock cooling
SSD: Kingston SDDNOW V300120GB
HDD: some random aftermarket samsung 320 GB 7200rpm
PSU: Chieftec GPA-500S8, 500W

Solution

newer corsair cx 450m & 550m models - these are great quality dc-dc units & tend to be reasonably priced - not to be confused with th older mediocre 1012 cx 430 & cx 500 models (unlikely because the new models only come in +50w variants),they are semi modular & come with a 5 year warranty.
XFX - pretty much any model apart from the xt series which are bluntly crap - everything apart from those xt ones in manufactured by Seasonic & has a 5 year warranty.
Seasonic - Any pretty much, lowest Id go is the s12 520w - All seasonics are good,All have 5 year warranties
EVGA b2,g2,gs,gq...

EVGA b2,g2,gs,gq , possibly the bq too if the price is right.

b2 & g2 are superflower manufactured (arguably the best psu manufacturer around now)
gs is a gold rated seasonic unit
bq & gq are very well made fsp units (bronze & gold rated respectively) - ultimately not as good quality as the above but not far behind at all
All the evga Ive listed have 5 year warranties.

Antec vpf450 & vpf550 (only these 2 models with the f suffix) but the 2015 version not the older 2013 models.
distinguishable because the newer recommended models are 88% bronze certified, the older ones are 80+ only.

old model left, new model right - new model is massively superior - on a par with the corsairs above & a very very similr platform (but only a 3 year warranty)

Thanks, that is very informative i will probably go with cx 550M, because there are not so many of the good ones you named available in my country
