I gonna buy a GTX 1050 but my monitor is rather old. I don't know about dvi compatibility. The monitor has dvi-d single link connection while gtx 1050 has dvi-d dual link. So, can I connect them with my current single link dvi-d cable without any problem? My current display is 1920x1080@60hz and I'm fine with it, I'm not aiming higher res or hertz. Thanks.

Yes, single link plugs directly into a dual link port with no problems, it just won't fill all the pins and you won't be able to run 144hz.
