Installed Asus Xonar DSX sound card and drivers in Win7-64 w/ MSI mb. Card works OK at rear panel, but I've lost front panel audio out. Tried uninstalling software and lost all native Win7 audio capability. How do I get the front panel earfones back either w/ or w/o Asus software installed? Thanks.

Hello, Moderator...

Thanks for timely reply. The case is an Antec Sonata, 10ish yrs old. The front panel jacks plug into the MB. All previous experience w/ sound cards did <not> require re-routing these to a/the sound card. Also, front panel lines are in a bundle, and I don't think that the earphone jack lines can be easily dissected out of the bundle to go somewhere other that the standard jack on the conventional ATX MB. Also/again, the installation guide for the sound card [minimal at best] does not mention this variation. Comments on these "complications" much appreciated. Happy New Year to you.

In my experience, I have never connected front panel jacks to sound cards; evidently, the sound cards worked through the MB/OS resources. My experience is no doubt limited; I overwhelmingly use computers for "computing" and not for "media." The "line" from the front panel is for all connections, a single encapsulated cable. I'd have to open it up and dissect out the audio jack line, then run it to the sound card. Is this the solution to the problem? Another finding that's confusing is that when I delete the driver software with the control panel applet, I do not regain OS/MB sound resources; in that condition I have no sound anywhere/anyhow. Is this normal? Suppose I wanted to revert to the original OS installation: how do I get there without having to reinstall the OS from the ground up? Thanks for all comments and help.
