Not even sure this is even possible, Or even asked before. But my ps4 died, and i bought a 2tb seagate backup plus hdd that i too apart to replace the 1tb i have in my ps4. And I want to transfer the games from the 1tb to the 2tb on a new ps4, using the data/sata attatchment i got from taking apart the sbp.the reason i asks this, is because its not a normal backup of saved games. its just the normal os with games on it. But was wondering if i plugged it in could i somehow transfer the games? I know this may sound confusing or pointless, or maybe not. just dont wanna have to redownload 900gb worth of games again lol

Hey there again, @Ryan!

In this case, I guess you could give it a try, but keep in mind that taking the HDD out of the external enclosure will void its warranty, so regular backups in the future are essential. I'm not sure if it will work, but I think I found something that could help you with this. Here's a thread from the PS community that discusses the same issue.

I hope it helps you resolve the problem and get it working.

Happy New Year, @Ryan Wilkinson!

Unfortunately, it's really not recommended to clone a failed HDD. A damaged hard drive contains corrupted data which might not work properly, even if you are able to boot from the other cloned PS4 replacement. You won't be able to copy/paste an OS and the saved software. If you could still access and boot from the current failing HDD, I'd strongly recommend you follow the standard PS4 backup procedure and then simply fresh install the console's OS onto the new HDD. Unfortunately, if you are unable to do that, you could have lost the saved games. My recommendation is to always make sure you back up your progress in the future. Keeping duplicates is what will save you from the headaches of data loss in the future.

For further details on how to replace & re-install the OS onto the new hard drive, I'd advise you to check the console's official support website and their detailed knowledge base.

Hope this was helpful. Good luck!

The hard drive isnt corrupt. the ps4 stopped working. And I got a new ps4. I dont want to clone it. I wanted to know if i could transfer the games i have on it to my new hdd. Because you can do the backup feature and put them on an external. But since the ps4 died, i cant do that. So i wanted to know if i could plug the ps4 hdd that has the previous os with games on it, as if it was an external usb drive. and transfer them to the new hdd. or youre only able to do that if you do the actual backup feature.
