Windows 98 or ME for old games?

I would use 98 only as I lived through ME and it was a painful experience and would never consciously install that on anything I own ever again...
I don't think there is a great difference between them apart from 98 being more stable.

Windows Me if you don't want to lose out-of-the-box support for USB flash drives. Windows 98 if you don't want to lose your mind. Keep both of them offline. Neither has received a security patch for a decade.

There's nothing wrong with a old machine going online, just:
A. Be smart.
B. Use an antivirus such as clamwin
C. Don't have anything important on it, or at least back it up.
D.have a reinstall disc ready, even if it's not a virus, I've found its easy to mess stuff up.
