Hello everyone

I just installed linux on my brand new SSD cause I have problems installing windows from a usb stick. I dont know why the heck it doesnt work I have never ever in my life ever had a problem with installing windows from a usb untill I built this new rig. Now all of sudden I get a black screen with some error <mod edit> everytime I try to boot windows installer from a usb but thats another story.

My issue with linux is that for some reason I can not change my screen resolution. When I go to dispay settings it says that I have a built in monitor. I guess that means that linux can not detect my monitor? I have a 1080p screen so it really pisses me off to run my OS at 1024x768. So if anyone have a solution I will be very thankfull!!

Please bear in mind that I am a total linux noob so if you have any advanced solutions please keep in mind im a noob to linux.

Thank you in advance!

I recommend installing the driver from AMD, Nvidia, or Intel, depending on the type of GPU. Download it from their site and follow the instructions.

The other thing you might do is switch to a different type of monitor cable. If the driver can't detect the display via HDMI, maybe DispayPort will work. Both should work, but sometimes I've had issues specific to one or the other.

Back away from the cliff, there is no reason to get upset...

What Linux distribution did you install?
What graphics card do you have?

The reason you cannot change your resolution is most likely because of the graphics driver it is using. Most of the distributions that I've used these days have a driver manager that will help install the appropriate graphics driver.
