Hi,

I've got an old 5.1 system lying about, a Sony DAV-S800.

I figured I'd give it a go with my MSI H170 Gaming M3 motherboard's optical output.

When I test the Dolby Digital in Realtek Digital Output Properties in Windows, all speakers test and play independently. I'm trying to get it to work in games, but I'm not having any joy.

I've updated to the latest RealTek drivers (6.0.1.8010), and all connections are ok.

Also, the RealTek software doesn't allow me to specifically select the 5.1 setup, it's just basically an equaliser.

Any help would be much appreciated

The amp hasn't got HMDI input... :-(

If optical can't take 5.1, why is the test sound working on all five speakers?

thanks

On the motherboard, apart from the optical out, I have the following outputs, all 3.5mm

RS-Out
CS-Out
L-out
L-in

On the Sony, apart from the optical in, I have the following inputs;

Phono L
Phono R

The thing is, I have used this with my Xbox 360. Optical out from Xbox, to the optical in on the Sony, and I had proper surround sound
