Windows 7 doesn't automatically detect and install the proper drivers for the Xbox controllers, I believe this was introduced in windows 8 or is it 10?. I know there's free to use programs out there to do the same job, but i can't recall the name right now.

[strike]unofficially maybe, officially no. Microsoft has not released drivers for their Xbox One controllers for anything other than Windows 10.[/strike]

wired it will work with Win7 and 8.1. sorry for being wrong originally.

The Xbox One controller WILL work with Windows 7. Others are wrong. It will only work as wireless with Windows 10, but wired works with everything above 7...Yes they are official, and drivers are found through Windows. Unfortunately, mine is working on one computer with Win7, but not the other. I get the same msg as you. Still looking for a solution....

you're right i saw it on the Xbox webpage itself
https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-on-windows/accessories/connect-xbox-one-controller-to-pc

Tried unofficial drivers but none of them doesnt work
also when i try to go to windows update it keeps checking for updates (waited 4 hours)

Only when using bluetooth. Mine works fine with a cord.
