I am having a lot of issues trying to push my cpu past 2.88 GHz.
Specs are:
CPU: Intel Core2 Quad Q6600
CPU Cooler: Hyper 212 EVO
Motherboard: Asus P5W-DH Deluxe
RAM: 2x 1gb Corsair XMS2 DDR2, 2x 2gb Corsair XMS2 DDR2
GPU: Gigabyte Windforce GTX 770 4gb
I have been trying to overclock my Q6600 for a while now, and until recently thought that it was my cooler. I upgraded my CPU cooler to a Hyper 212 evo, and assumed that my problems would be gone. But, unfortunately, they are not.
Whenever I go for an overclock for 3 GHz or more, I am plauged by errors like "irql not less or equal", "Memory managment" and other errors like that. I researched why I would be getting blue screens, and the most prominent answer was low voltages, so I upped the voltage when I overclocked to 3 GHz to ~1.3, but that still did not do anything.
This tends to lead me to believe that the RAM is the culprit. I recently realized that instead of the RAM being 1-3, 2-4, it was supposed to be placed in 1-2, 3-4. They are all clocked at 800 MHz, and they are both XMS2, despite having different heat spreader designs.
The thing is, is that I can overclock until a certain point (~2.88-9 GHz), and after that it just falls apart.
What could this be? Help is greatly appreciated.
