So tomorrow (Jan 5th) I'll be receiving my rx 470 8gb strix and I'm super excited about it but my power supply only has a 6-pin connector and the card needs a 8-pin. I will be receiving a new power supply that actually is reputable on Jan 18th so my question is will I destroy my system if I use a 6pin to 8pin for that period of time or will it be okay.

Current System:
CPU: AMD FX-8350 black
CPU Cooler: Corsair H60 all-in-one liquid cooler
Ram: 8gb hyper x fury black 1600mhz
Mobo: Gigabyte 970A-DS3P
GPU: Nvidia 650ti Boost
Case: Raidmax Super Altas
******PSU: Raidmax rx-500s (Came with the case)
HDD: Toshiba 1TB
SSD: PNY 120gb

Parts I'll be receiving:
GPU: ASUS ROG Radeon RX 470 STRIX-RX470-O8G-GAMING 8GB (Tomorrow Jan 5th)
PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply(Jan 18th)

Solution
^ the strix 470 can actually hit damn close to 150w so what barty says is actually amplified even more.

So without a doubt that raidmax will go pop if you use it, likely with dire consequences.

The 500s does in fact have the lesser 22a rail & is just plain dire.

An 'included' Raidmax..... there's a good chance you'll cause some damage with that.

The RX-500S supposedly has either 28A or 22A on the 12V rail* = 336W or 264W , and it's a 500W 'peak' (you want continuous).... it's really not very good.

Considering the RX470 requires 120W from the 12V rail, and the PSU can't even continuously output 336 or 264W........... that's just asking for trouble IMHO.

You have a 125W CPU, 120W GPU (tomorrow anyway) and 100W for the balance of the components (motherboard etc), I'd be surprised if it even powers on, let alone 'works' short term.

Newegg listed "22A on 12V", whereas the picture shows 28A on 12V....but the picture shows the RX-500 (nonS).

As for "reputable", I agree the SuperNOVA NEX 650W is dramatically better, it's not an 'amazing' PSU at all. You can usually find even better quality PSUs for the price.

So I should get a different psu instead of that SuperNOVA? And what exactly would I damage?

It's a heck of a lot better than the Raidmax, but depending how much you paid for it, you could probably do better (I'm assuming it hasn't shipped?)

This is a great PSU, and should be about $10-15 less than the NEX 650W if you're in the US, and more than sufficient for your needs:
PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

Power Supply: SeaSonic G 550W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($64.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $64.99

What it *would* damage? It's impossible to say. What it *could* damage? Potential every single component.
Those 'included' PSUs are junk. Some are even potential fire hazards. I'm not saying this one is, but I also cannot reliably say it's not.

Yea hasn't shipped yet (Complicated situation with that) and I could cancel it. I picked 650w incase I was gonna add or change something just incase. Would you still recommend the SeaSonic you commented?

Update: Yea I know the psu that was included is junk but the case was a gift and I didn't get a power supply besides that one and I figured 500w would be fine for the temporary solution.

A decent-enough 500W would be fine..............but your 500W is barely even a 250W 'peak'.

Yes, the 550W SeaSonic should be more than sufficient for any single GPU setup for a long time.

If/when you upgrade your CPU, it'll be more efficient (just don't look to the FX9XXX series!!), and GPUs are getting more & more efficient with every release.

I'm honestly surprised that PSU hasn't gone 'pop' with a 650ti Boost in there already

I didn't think raidmax was that bad lol, now I'm kinda scared just sitting next to the thing... I like that SeaSonic after looking at it and it'll save me money and time! Thanks for the recommendation!

We're certainly not trying to scare you, but it's all too common unfortunately. PSUs are the last thing people think about (if they ever do) and they can cause no-end of instability or worse.

I really am at a loss as to why that PSU is still functioning with an 8350 & 650ti Boost.

Yea originally I didn't think I was gonna have the boost to put in it but my friend had it as a backup gpu and is letting me use it until I get my new one. I originally thought I was only gonna have a Radeon H4350 to set-up my software and such lol

Oh and by the way the system has only been like this for about 9-10 days. All the parts were new except the HDD.

Thanks for all the help! You helped me out a lot.
