Hello everyone.

Problem description:
Hello everyone, let's go straight to the business.
New build is starting up with 00 code on motherboard which indicated CPU error. There is no beep, no video output, CPU is not getting hot, CPU fan is starting up occasionally(it usually starts 2-3 times when I remove power for few minutes but it isn't a rule).

What I've already tried

  • Moved mobo out of the case
    reset BIOS (button and pin)
    running on BIOS B
start just with cpu and cpu fan
    removed heatsink
checked PSU voltages idle and under load
all cables are connected(using 4 pin connector for CPU power)
run full build with memory, HDD, GPU and CPU
    reinstalled CPU
    checked socket pin

Once when I was trying to run system with cpu only I got error 5x indicating lack of memory, after installing one stick error 00 returned..

Configuration:

  • AsRock z170 extreme4
    i5 6500
    Chieftec 400w GPS-400AA-101 A
    Asus Nvidia 630GT (passive)
    Corsair Vengeance 2x 8G
It all looks like CPU or Motherboard is faulty but I can't find good way to distinguish between two of them.

Thank you for any help provided.

PS: PSU is taken from my old set. Old piece of hardware but fully functional.

Solution
Have you tried removing the thermal paste and reapplying with less?

Sometimes too much thermal paste can cause boot errors.

I wouldnt say it is likely a bent pin did it as it boots well with the other cpu, and its difficult to get a defective cpu tbh.

Clear CMOS as well, the manual can tell you how.

It works perfectly with overclocked quad core q9300, HD4850, 4 stick of ram, 5hdds and Disc Drive.
I tried to connect 12v2 6pin connector. Using that setup my PSU isn't starting. I can hear a click on every reset but that's it. Sadly I have no way to check different PSU at the moment.
