When I switch off my computer overnight and come back to it the next morning it doesn't work. I press the power button and the computer turns on for a split second and switches off with no beeps or motherboard post, the computer keeps flickering for split second and turning off. I proceeded to diagnose this issue by opening it up and checking the motherboard connections, removing the ram, graphics card, pcie pheripherals.
When I start the computer without the 8 pin CPU power cable from the PSU it starts working again. I then plugged it back in and to my suprise, the computer started to work again. I thought the issue was probably a loose CPU 8 pin power cable and I had fixed it.
The pc continued to work fine for the next few days until today, when the same issue occurred. And the PC flickers on for a split second. I assumed it was the same issue but when I attempted the same fix of unplugging and plugging cpu power, it did not work this time. I read some forums and thought that perhaps it was something behind the motherboard shorting it out. I removed it from the case but the same issue still happened. Just when I thought I was lost for options and either my motherboard or PSU was fried, I tried hotplugging the cpu power cable while the system was on (which I know is dangerous) but it seemed to do the trick and the system booted. But when I put everything back together and rebooted the issue happened again. I was lost again but when I tried changing the USB port the mouse was plugged into the computer started normally which baffled me as the system was not working when I removed all the peripherals from the USB ports.
The computer seems to be working fine now but I am scared to switch it off. Out of fear for the same issue happening again. I have no idea what the root cause of the problem could be.
