Looking for a CPU upgrade for the lowest possible price.

You could look for a Quad 2 Duo on ebay they run like $20 but yeah not worth it.

That will get you in the door and will be better than you current PC at about $135.00, reuse your HDD, CD, though you may need a new PSU/case and of course your window license (unless OEM then you may need to buy new license).
