First of January I had dual boot windows 10 and Ubuntu on my ASUS N550JK laptop, I wanted to reinstall both of Operation Systems, I had lots of operation on HDD such as formatting partitions and create new ones..., after installing Ubuntu I start to installing windows 10 but during the installation it hanged and I had to restart the system, after that my problems started, system didn't start working and got freeze after Asus logo, it didn't show the boot page, I research and thought it's about CMOS and battery but I couldn't find CMOS on board! after that I tried without HDD and using OS live cd, it works well and cpu, ram was ok, everything is ok instead of HDD, I plugged in the HDD to another system with sata/usb converter as second HDD , if I was with linux machine it hanged and made me to restart that machine, but if I was with Windows it didn't hand but also didn't mount the HDD, But the shining point is that, it could shows the HDD in Device Manager , but couldn't shows in Disk Management! with another system I've set it up as primary HDD of the system from boot page and started it, it could mount the Grub 2 bootloader that was on my HDD! But it couldn't continue and after starting the system and shows an error about Windows Metadata kept in! HDD has a new partition which windows made it and store its Metadata in it! when plug in the HDD with linux machine it start to hanging and when I get it out of it, it start to break free slowly from that hanging situation! I think it fills the RAM! but why? now, I don't know what to do! I tried lots of apps which were about HDD recovery and these cases but no one could detect it! it just detect by Windows Device Manager and Bios. at the end, all of these things can works on another machine, when I plug in the HDD to my laptop, it freezes and hangs and can't do anything with it!

Hi there amir7hossein,

Unfortunately, it looks like there's something wrong with the HDD.

When attached to another system, the HDD is not recognized by Disk Management right? If this is the case, then I doubt that you will be able to test it with some OS tools. It would not hurt to try that though: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility
If this doesn't work, I believe you can try some DOS ones as well.

Similar system hangs could be caused by a failing/failed drive. (bad sectors in most cases)

Cheers,
