Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller incompatible?

I'm trying to hook up my 8 year old desktop w/ Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller. I updated everything made sure the wire and the ports were working. I can get a wireless connection but the wired connection says unidentified network and half the time it say unplugged so I'm starting to think it's just too obsolete

OK then, check the contacts in the port next. If any of those pay down too much, the would exhibit this issue. It could also be a bad card in other ways.

It's doubtful it is an incompatibility, as those have been tested all over without very many issues. Performance is pretty poor, usually, but they don't usually have compatibility issues.

i originally thought that was the case but I tried my friends laptop, no problems with the wire
