Trying to fix my mom's laptop after she dropped it. Got a new hard drive and installed Win 7 on it, then I figured I better do some Windows Updates...can't do it. It just updates forever, never finds anything. I try to update Microsoft Security Essentials...can't even do that!

So finally I said "screw it"...even though she said she preferred Win 7 I'm just going to try to download Win 10 and hopefully that will solve the problem...well guess what? I've been at 0% on the Windows 10 Upgrade for about 30 minutes now! This FREAKING computer REFUSES to download anything Microsoft-related. Did someone just drop an bomb on all the Microsoft servers recently? Cause this is just freaking ridiculous!

Yes the Windows disk in geniune as well...it had to check before it would let me start downloading the Win 10 upgrade. Everything should be fine it's just not working.

It seems you're trying to run the Win 10 from inside the not quite working Win 7.

Instead, boot from that Win 10 and do it that way.
