Computer was plugged into the wall and plugged an older monitor to see if it was working. My dad then unplugged the psu cable out of the wall instead of the monitor and the whole thing turned off. Now when i try to turn it on, all the fans turn on but it keeps saying check video cable even though my original monitor is plugged in. Also the corsair keyboard isn't lighting up (turning on). I tried to connect the keyboard to a laptop and it turns on. Im guessing that the motherboard short circuited. Was about to order a new motherboard, but wanted to get some insight to what you guys think.

Okay. Fans turn on when you try to power up the PC, but not the keyboard... and no video signal to the monitor. I assume that the PC is dead quiet on power up? (no beeps?)

What brand and model PSU do you have? This can make some difference in diagnosing your issue,
Also, what makes up the rest of the computer, parts wise?

I would not just buy the new motherboard yet. If fans working, you have some power coming from the PSU. If this is custom built computer, try to disconnect the power from the case power switch and power it on by using screw driver or power button on the motherboard if it is available. I would take everything out of case and try to start without the case. Is there any beeps or led lights on the motherboard? The lights should be green. If they red, try to take it out of the case. Sorry, it is a lot of work.

Also you did not try to connect the old monitor? Some time ports get confused. Try to turn system on and "Hot swab" connect the monitor while the system is on- some time it feels it better when you connect after power is on.

Assuming you do have a speaker hooked up to the motherboard (even if the speaker looks like a buzzer, connected to the motherboard and inside the case... It does sound like the motherboard could be dead.

Let's make sure the PSU isn't dead too. If you have a way of testing all the voltages coming out of the PSU, do so carefully, avoiding shorts. If they are not right (outside of specifications) or non-existent... The PSU is definitely gone in that case. You will need a good one. Your current PSU is normally okay as long as it isn't pushed too hard (wish I had a model number on it. i.e. 600b, SuperNOVA NEX, SuperNOVA B1, etc)
