Hello everyone. l'm currently wondering whether or not my 180W PSU for my Alienware X51 will support a GTX 1050 Ti

1050 Ti (MSI) l want: http://

Parts in current computer:

CPU:
Intel Core i3 6100 @ 3.70GHz (35W)

RAM:
8.00GB Dual-Channel Unknown @ 1064MHz (N/A)

Motherboard:
Alienware 026CD3 (N/A)

GPU:
4095MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 745 (55W)

Storage:
931GB Western Digital WDC WD10EZEX-75M2NA0 (N/A)

So l'm wondering, if my 180W PSU could run the GTX 1050 Ti. After all, it's just a increase of 20W in power for a GTX 745 to a GTX 1050 Ti. Or will l have to buy a 240W PSU: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AVMUJ1M/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2ALO1TP46VH27&coliid=I2ONHGSZAVWGHR to support it? Thank you!

Solution
This is not even a close call. GTX 1050 Ti has an official TDP of 75 watts. You should know that GPUs can exceed power usage spec. Your Core i3 6100 has 51 watt TDP. That's [strike]54 [/strike]126 watts of 180 watts and doesn't include the power consumption of the motherboard, storage device, etc.

I just now realized that your power supply is external. I have to be honest with you: If I was in your position, I'd sell the Alienware X51, and build a proper gaming PC. I looked up selling prices of your computer with the i3 processor. Only one of them sold for $500, but many of them sell for $350 - $400...

I understand. But if the minimum for a GTX 745 is 300W, (according to geforce.com) then maybe the 1050 Ti could run on a 180W PSU since it's only 20 more watts.

75W for the GPU and 35W for your CPU. 110W plus other stuff, and it has to be under 180W doesn't leave you much room. Plus, you are assuming that 180W PSU actually puts out 180W. Let me ask you this: Do you really think a company that puts a 180W PSU in a computer to begin with makes sure it's a good PSU? I don't think so.

Haha. It says the same thing. Maybe a 180W PSU could run it... But l just want to know if 20 more watts would be too much power.

The X51 uses a AC adapter for power.

Ideally I'd want to invest $500 - $600 into a gaming PC. You can buy a Windows license cheaply off Kinguin: https://www.kinguin.net/catalogsearch/result/index/?q=windows+7

Thank you rcald200 for the help. I honestly would sell the computer but it was a family gift and l would find it disrespectful to sell it. However, l will probably sell my 180W AC adapter and use that money to help fund the purchase of a 240W AC Adapter. Thank you and everyone else for the help.

If your family just purchased it for you during this past Christmas from Sams Club, they have a 90 day return policy. If that's the case then it's worth having a conversation with your family. I'm sure they would understand that it doesn't fully meet your needs. Good luck.
