hi guys , I have a 4gb ddr3 1333mhz installed in my pc and a friend gave me a 2gb 1333mhz one but they are not the same brand . I did not put it in my pc cause I know a guy who put a 2gb with his 4gb but his original 4gb ram 'distructed' as a result !
so , what do you advice me to do ?
my specs :
i5 3340 @ 3.1Ghz
H77H2-m4 from ECS
4gb ddr3 @1333mhz
450watt psu (standard)
and thank you in advance !

Hello Mahdi_88,

I found your motherboard manual on the web it is located at
looking on the specifications it does call your memory compatibility to be Dual-channel DDR3 memory architecture 4 x 240-pin DDR3 DIMM sockets support up to 32 GB Supports DDR3 1600/1333/1066 MHz DDR3 SDRAM on page https://www.manualslib.com/manual/814401/Ecs-H77h2-M4.html?page=6#manual
looking further on page 12 of your user manual https://www.manualslib.com/manual/814401/Ecs-H77h2-M4.html?page=16#manual
it is indicated the following; " The four DDR3 memory sockets (DDR3_1, DDR3_2, DDR3_3 and DDR3_4) are divided
into two channels and each channel has two memory sockets as following:
Channel A: DDR3_1, DDR3_2
Channel B: DDR3_3, DDR3_4"

In theory you could use the 2GB to increase your total memory to 6gb yes,
As long as you do not pair it with the 4gb into the same coloured memory slot on the motherboard.

Will your system be able to properly improve with the additional 2gb? if it remains stable , Sure
Will the system remain stable? history has proven that at least 75% of mismatched memory size and type leads to system instability.

Would I do it ? nope.

Solution
Adding a bad or incompatible RAM module should in no way damage the existing modules.

Try it, worst that can happen is the system won't boot and you'll get error beeps from the POST.

Ideally you should be using two or four modules on that motherboard anyway because it supports dual-channel memory architecture, but you need a matched pair of RAM modules to take advantage of that, so even if that 2GB module does work, the dual channel function won't so you're missing out on that just as you are with only a single module installed.
