my HDD get damaged but don't know how !

hello guys , after putting a new fan in my case and "messing up with other cables too" but returned them as they were , I turned the pc on and I smelled 'burning plastic' besides my pc did not detected the hdd !
my specs are :
i5 3340 @3.1Ghz
H77H2-m4 from ECS
4gb@1333mhz
gt 730
450watt psu (standard)
so I know now that my hdd is gone but I want to know what was the cause ? what do you guys think ? and thanks in advance .

Hi there mahdi_88,

Well, you could have not properly connected the power cable. Also, "messing up with other cables too" does not really provide much info. :D

Are u sure your HDD is damaged? You can connect it with different SATA and power cables to another SATA port.

yes I tried with other power cable , SATA cables and ports but it didn't work but I have 2 other HDDs working just fine .
actually my damaged one is new and it is in "warranty period" , does warranty cover this cause I didn't call the store yet .
and sorry for my grammar .
