so I have this shitty 200$ laptop I use to take notes in classes. But after a year it's starting to pop up warning messages constantly telling me that I have low memory, see below.

I can't even open more than 1 tab in chrome (without any other opened process) or the window is gonna turn black and the whole pc just freezes.

I don't have any memory intensive programs such as games or other softwares installed. The only active background apps are the default ones: windows defender and Asus smart gesture. The only programs I use is Microsoft Word and Chrome.

Is there anything I can do to free up more memory? I believe the laptop has at least 4GB of Ram but since I only bought it for note-taking, I didn't pay too much mind to the specs.

thanks

go in to windows performance settings and set it to performance over appearance. Download and run malwarebytes, as well as CCleaner. You might have some malware or something that is hogging resources. In CCleaner, be sure to also go in to the startup tab and disable any unnecessary programs that automatically load at startup

yeah thanks, I figured this would probably solve the issue, but I mainly wanted to know why this was happening in the first place. I don't want to have to deal with it again next year :p
