hello. i have gigabyte gtx 970 g1. yesterday i decided to repaste the gpu with new paste, when i removed the heat sink i noticed deterioration on memory side thermal pads.so i removed them and used the insulation tape as thermal pads, the tape is used for insulating the electrical wiring, i was wondering a little bit if it can actually impede the transfer of heat and can cause the chips to overheat, though after the job i played assassin creed syndicate for 2hr to see if it causes any problem and the card ran fine.i am just asking this question out of caution.thanks

Yes, if the chips get too hot they will melt the tape and cause the adhesive to run and possibly damage the board. I mean, it's not 100% a sure thing, but if I were you, I'd just spend a few bucks on new thermal pads/ thermal tape for heatsinks. Either can be picked up really cheap on ebay or amazon usually.

I'd say get this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/QUALITY-BLUE-100X100X1-mm-Thermal-Conductive-Compound-Pad-For-Heatsink-GPU-Chip-/131319336180?hash=item1e933e0cf4:g:t3gAAOSw8cNUSnEy

It's only 5 bucks, ships pretty quick, and you can cut the pads to any size and shape with this solid piece.

thanks for the reply.i checked the link you gave and unfortunately they don't ship in my country, though there is an other option for me the double tape which is used in cars to stick the lights and other decoration items. can i use it instead of insulation tape, can it effectively transfer the heat between the heat sink and chips.

You will need thermal tape or thermal pads, other types of tape will not work. You can also try to email the manufacturer of your GPU and request new pads, see if they will ship you some if your card is still under warranty or if they are just nice enough to do it regardless.

no the card is out of warranty and it's highly unlikely that they will ship me the replacement pads, but i was thinking of replacing it with 1070 currently i have two options gigabyte g1 gaming 8g and asus gtx dual and msi gaming x. which one in your opinion is good or best thanks.
