I have been doing some research so that I can build a semi-decent rig; I have selected some components and I could really use some opinions. As you can tell I'm not looking to burst the bank, but if anyone could point out some alternatives to the components I have selected (that aren't too costly in comparison) it would be much appreciated. Also, are the components I have selected compatible?

- Motherboard: ASUS AMD AM3+ 990FX PRO R2.0

- CPU: AMD FX 8350 Black Edition "Vishera" CPU (8 Core)

- GPU: ASUS AMD Radeon RX 480 STRIX 08G 8 GB 8000 MHz GDDR5 256 Bit Memory

- RAM: HyperX FURY Series 8 GB DDR3 1600 MHz (x2)

- PSU: Corsair CP-9020061-UK Builder Series CXM750

- SSHD: Seagate 2TB Desktop SSHD - SATA 6GB/s 3.5-inch internal Solid State Hybrid drive

I wanted to have DDR4 RAM but I wasn't sure which Mobo or CPU combination would be best - as you can tell, I'm not too clued up on all of this but hopefully I'll get there.

Many thanks in advance.

Hello,

As other have already asked, it would be easier for us to help you if we knew your budget and what the PC will be used for. Either way, I figure that with the parts you selected, your budget is somewhere around $800. I've put together a list of what I would spend roughly $800 on if I were building a system today:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i3-7350K 4.2GHz Dual-Core Processor (£199.00)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler (£29.98 @ Amazon UK)
Motherboard: Asus PRIME Z270-P ATX LGA1151 Motherboard (£125.48 @ Scan.co.uk)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000...

Hello. Your build seems OK, but I would personally pick newer components.
For example: I would go with and i3 processor instead of AMD FX 8350 (it's old, does't support newer technologies, etc.)
The GPU is great, but 8GB VRAM isn't really necessary... you will probably play games on 1080p right??
The RAM...I would go with DDR4 about 8 GB will be enough.
Tell me more about what are you going to use your PC for? Which games will you play and what is your budged?
Have a nice day.

Thanks guys,

I live in the UK and I mainly will be using it for music production on Pro Tools; but I would like to use it as a gaming rig when I'm not recording music. My budget is probably capped at £1000. I chose 16GB RAM so that I don't run the risk of Pro Tools crashing when I start to master a project with say 20+ tracks. If I was to get DDR4 RAM and change to an Intel CPU, which mobo should I use? As that mobo only supports DDR3, unless I'm mistaken.

I'd like to be able to run games at an acceptable rate such as BF1, Elite Dangerous, ME: Andromeda and titles along those lines.

You could skimp on some of these parts - like smaller SSD/HDD or less RAM to start, since those are both easy upgrades and that could save you a few bucks.

EDIT: When I say $800 I actually mean pounds.

The i3 is unlocked and has hyper threading (2 physical cores, 4 threads). A little overclocking and it should be a hell of a chip for the ~$170 it will cost.

With that said, OP seems to have some extra cash to spend, so a better processor is definitely an option.

You forgot the PC case...that adds around 40$ plus about 20$ for some fans.
I would go for RX 480 4GB instead of 8GB...8GB is only needed when you want to game on 1440p or 4K resolution.
But great build though...where I live I wouldn't get all of this for 800$ though...that makes me sad :(

Thanks everyone for your input, I will be going for a very similar build to the one that jpatrick2 suggested alongside the i5 upgrade from Ikaz. I will be purchasing this around the end of February when I've saved enough up from my wages. I'll let you guys know how I get on when the time comes.
