Hi team,
I have a somewhat worrying temperature issue with my i7-4770K cpu maxing its Package temperatures at 100°C only 10mins after boot up and further only using the internet.
This is a recent discovery whereby it's gotten increasingly hot at increasingly faster heat up times. It used to sit at 30-40°C for general uses and no heavy software now it's hitting 70°C on boot up and then ramping to 100°C within 10-15mins.
I have the KÜHLER H2O 650 cooling system (http://www.antec.com/product.php?id=706542&pid=58&lan=nz) and it was purchased alongside the rest of my rig that I then built myself only 2 years ago.
I was wondering if anyone could give their opinion on possible causes for this, I shall write down all the things I have (in my knowledge) tried and checked as of 2 nights ago:
Firstly I de dusted the dust carpet on the coolers radiator which was incredibly thick, using an air canister. This removed all dust and as such the temperatures remained at 30-40°C for roughly 10mins before the tell tell signs of the fan revving up stage by stage started. It then went into the high 70's shortly after.
Today I have come back to it to check the temperatures of the cooling unit once turned on. I am able to tell that one pipe is hot and one cool, the radiator of the unit is cold and the fan is in serious overdrive. (sounds like a hoover when you stand outside my room).
Today is the day that it first reached 100°C in the 10min window after boot up.and its currently sitting as I type this at 97°C average.
All I have open on my desktop at the moment is the web, sticky notes, and HWMonitor to check for temperatures.
I have been told possibilities of clogged pipes and/or thermal paste issues. Either one would require me to change out the cooler, that I'm happy to do but I would like to know if there is anyway of being able to find out whats causing such incredibly high and demanding temperatures.
Thank you for your time!
Jack
