Okay... So I haven't been able to find anyone else with this issue, probably because its hard to word the question. Anyway, for some strange reason Windows (Win10) is not recognizing one of my HDDs (Seagate Barracuda 3TB ST3000M001). Now it seemed to progressively worsen to get to this point now that I think about it. I was able to restart my PC, in some cases I would try re-seating the sata cable it would be fine. unfortunately none of that works anymore. So here is where it gets worse.

Now not only is it not recognized even in disk management. its also freezing my PC for a few minutes if I plug it in (still not being seen) and from a fresh boot I can get to the log in screen just fine but after that it takes longer than normal to load and comes to a black screen with my cursor (not frozen). What is even more odd if I unplug the sata cable the black screen instantly goes away and my desktop is there.

I have tried a new cable including one that I use for a different drive with no changes in the situation. Thinking that maybe I got my friends mobo curse I tried a different sata port, also trying one that a different drive is using now that works just fine. System File Checker indicated that there are no found issues either.

Fortunately I have no important files that aren't backed up to multiple other drives but I was hoping to save it so I don't have to get a new one to put my games on as my 1tb ssd is getting full.

Hey there Sterzy.

So from what I understand, the drive is working normally with a different SATA port, but please correct me if I'm wrong. Still I'd recommend that you download the HDD manufacturer's diagnostic tool and run all the tests, to see what's the situation with the drive. It really sounds more like a faulty HDD rather than a faulty SATA port, but that's yet to be confirmed.
As for the system's behaviour while the drive in question is connected to the motherboard, it's not uncommon for a faulty drive to be causing performance issues even if it's not the OS drive.

By the way, good job on keeping backups of your important information.

Please let me know how it goes.

So this technically fixed it because when I started the Seagate diagnostic tool it was able to detect my problem drive and then from there windows saw it. I wasn't able to access it still and found in Disk Management that it somehow became RAW. Seeing as it said the drive was empty the solution I came to was deleting the partition and formatting the drive to my preferred format. Now its working again!!!

Good thing my ISP doesn't care about data usage cause its going to be working overtime downloading my Steam library, lol.

Thanks for the help!
