Sapphire RX 480 Nitro+ screen flickering

Hello, so i just installed my GPU like 2 hours ago and i tested some games. I installed the latest drivers avalaible( 16.12.2 ). I also used DDU before installing the gpu. Basically the screen is flickering with like gray bars moving downwards, Its happening only when gaming. My monitor is 1680x1050 LG Flatron w2242s if that helps, vga input. I am running a hdmi-to-vga connector so i can hook up the gpu to the monitor. I thought it could be because of the connector, but its only doing it when playing games so i am clueless.. Any help would be appreciated.

i could swear that latest drivers are 16.40 or at least my pc said that in the morning

it says Crimson ReLive Edition 16.12.2 Optional . could you please like check if you are running 16.40? and if so , where i could officially download them?

the adapter you mention, do you have a card with dvi outout? better to use a dvi to vga adapter that just works, those adapters/dongles are weird and prone to fail

well the 480 has a dvi d output, so i guess i could find another adapter that is dvid d to vga. but i am curious as why a hdmi-to-vga adapter shouldnt work? i think it is as good as it is.

i have seen many doa or not lasting long enough, or getting too hot and failing, same for cheap displayport to vga

the dvi to vga is just a adapter and is hard to kill it, also the pc will see it as a normal vga and will detect resolution well, hdmi can give you resolution problems and sometimes audio problems

didn't your rx came with one of those?

sapphire is famous for not giving much with their cards, usually just the card and a cd in the box

other than that, i can't think of another reason to have problems in games than perhaps a stuck video setting on the game that the video card doesn't like ot the card itself has a problem

no sapphire didnt include any adapter with the card. i spent 20€ on my hama hdmi-to-vga connector so i thought it would be reliable.i think that my dad has the same connector on his notebook so he could hook his monitor up and he doesnt have any flickering. now i am not sure if it is a problem with the adapter or the gpu itself. my bro has a asus strix 480,maybe i will try to use the hdmi adapter with his card and see if it does any flickering. this whole thing is just frustrating, i bought the card today and i already experience problems :/ i am not sure who to blame, rx 480, sapphire or the adapter

if you really have doubts on the card, the only way to make them go away is try the other adapter i mentioned to see if it helps or return the card as doa rma

i dont know what you mean by doa rma. anyway, i guess i will try the adapter with my bros card and if it works with his, then my card is defective. if it doesnt, then it means the adapter is defective and i will try out the dvi adapter . i hope it doesnt come to returning the card, because it is kinda complicated for me to do so. i will let you know what are the results.

yes, it is always a problem to do it, but sometimes is what is faster

try with a dvi to vga, also try the original port direct to another device

the reason you see so many adapters with so many forms is this one, not all ports are identical and not al monitors respnd equally

vga is analog and the hdmi is digital. i would need a dvi d active to vga adapter , because the active one transfers from digital to analog. but there would be worse image quality and lag. i guess i just need to buy a new monitor :/

no, i know that, i meant to say that test the hdmi into a tv or a monitor with hdmi imput to see if the port is ok or not

if you find that the port directly working without a adapter also has issues, you can decide if return the part and get a new

if you can, get a monitor with hdmi and displayport, vga still works as you see but is a more a problem than anything this days

yeah but i already tried it with the displayport and the flickering continued. i dont think that dp and hdmi wouldnt be working,i think its the vga...maybe i will give it one more shot with the hdmi without adapter, but i think the only solution here is to get new monitor. do you have any experience with dvi d > vga adapters? how much lag and worse quality it is?

it is virtually the same as a vga, dvi to vga are for most things, the same, especially if you use one of these

i have one of those to connect a tv with a gpu that has a dead vga port, also one of those to connect a 40" tv and a 20" old vga monitor to a gtx 750ti

the best port atm is hdmi 2.0 or displayport, vga and dvi are there just for legacy compatibility purpose, nothing more, it is not a strictly digital signal so noise is a problem on vga cables always but if still works, use it until it dies

if it is a good monitor, that could take 10 to 15 years
