What is the most ideal one then what are some options around $100 wired is ok but definitely rather have wireless. I use a razer epic naga as a daily driver. And I can't stand using a mouse without the extra buttons any more so that gives you an idea on what I'm looking for.

Easy: Xbox 360 controller. I have one of the shiny metallic blue "special edition" versions paired up with a $15 wireless receiver. Here's why I consider it to be the best controller for gaming: it works. For every single game that has native controller support and games that have been ported from consoles. No 3rd party software, no fiddling with button settings. You turn on an Xbox 360 controller and fire up say Assassin's Creed: Whatever and the game will communicate with you the exact same way it would if you were on an Xbox 360. It'll tell you to press A to sprint (maybe, I forgot the AC controls), press B to stab, etc. They're also well built. I've abused the ever loving heck out of more than one 360 controller and the only thing...

I've abused the ever loving heck out of more than one 360 controller and the only thing I've ever had a problem with was the rubber on the top of the analog sticks cracking. I just bought a set of thumb stick protectors for $5; not perfect but it extended the life of the controller. and for the $100 you have to spend you could easily buy 2 or 3, plus a wireless receiver, and have backups just in case.
