the ribber is there to stop vibrations from the hard disk to reach the rest of the patop and viceversa, also to protect it form light impacts but most people just rmeove it and put some toilet paper or foam or similar material to keep it in place and forget about it

i did something similar with a eraser on a ps3 super slim, it worked for 2 years :D
