Can I install a 4gb and 8gb ram on the same computer. I installed both the two 4gb and 8gb ram sticks on my computer and windows recognized 16gb. Couple months pass and my motherboard gets fried. The technician i paid to diagnosed my computer said that my 2 4gb and 8gb ram setup doesn't work even though windows recognized 16gb. I want to know whether i should just keep the 2 4gb sticks or install the 8gb with the 2 4gb sticks and if the installation of the 4gb and 8gb ram sticks could have lead to my motherboard being fried.

Mixing different types of ram is not really a good idea, but trying to do should not fry your motherboard and I don't think it's the reason behind that, however, I still don't think its a good idea to mix different types of ram as it will make you face mostly face software issues no matter how long they work for.
