I heard that z170 boards can support 7th gen kaby lake. Does anybody know what motherboard would be good to use for kaby lake?

Solution
if the '170 board won't work out of the box with a kabylake processor, then it'll need a bios update, to do a bios update you need a processor that works with the bios as it is, so you'll need a skylake processor to update the bios. Therefore a '270 would be much better. You might get lucky in 6 months time and find '170's pre updated, but you won't know till you open it.

Isn't the z270 more expensive than z170?

It depends abit on the board also. Some motherboards u can bios update without anything but power.
Read the manual of your motherboard to find out if/how u can update the bios.

I have a z170a which I just bought. I have an i5 7600k socketed, but my computer won't display anything regardless of the video out port I use. I have confirmed that another working power supply does not remedy this. I've give through the checklist on this website. The motherboard's error lights only briefly display the dram light. I've also checked all the connectors, and I've done everything but breadboard the motherboard. Could my computer's BIOS not be properly communicating with my processor? I believe I can flash the BIOS with a flash drive, but help on that would be appreciated greatly as well.

If you're going to buy a Z170 board, it's completely fine. The only thing you'll need to do after building and getting your OS fully set up, you'll wanna head over to the manufacturer's website, search and find your motherboard, and there will most likely be a "BIOS Flash" section in the "Downloads" section for your motherboard. You'll want to load that onto a removable USB stick, restart your computer, mash whatever key takes you to your BIOS, and look for the option that says "BIOS Flash", then click your way through the settings, it will restart 1 to many times, and you'll have your motherboard ready for 7th Gen. (You do this all after installing, so you don't need to worry about having that 7th gen CPU in for that short amount of time, but you want to do it very soon after you're fully set up.) :)

We've many many examples on here of laby lake not working at all, on 100 series mobos until they are flashed, the problem is they don't work sufficiently to allow you to flash the bios.
