I have an old alienware 51 which was running fine when the cooling fan started making noise. Left it unplugged ordered new fan. Replaced fan all running including both video cards. Connected was taken to cmos at startup. NOt knowing much thought it was good idea to select reset to default. After found dead cmos battery was issue being left unplugged. Back in changed battery now get message listed above. Back to cmos
IDE channel 0 master DVD
IDE channel0 slave DVD
Channel 1 & 2 list hard drives
settings on auto detect, 1st boot cd, 2nd hard disk switching didnt change anything
I do have the image cd and was trying to avoid going this way if possible. I do understand that its 10 years old and its possible that I have a hard drive failure.

Anyone have any suggestions, thinking about taking it into the shop but really don't want to waste dollars if its something I might be able to fix.

Thanks

Note the computer came loaded with xp and I have the upgrade to vista disk also
