Hello,

I recently installed an additional 2x8 of Gskills DDR4 2800mhz to make it 32GB. However, the system is of course only recognizing it as 2133MHZ....So I boot into my bios and turn XMP enable. I save it to profile 1. Save and exit.

Then of course during the reboot I get a black screen with ....all settings were reset to default values: Stating that the previous overclock settings have failed and array of options to boot in to bios, or load default values and continue and ect.

From everything I read accordingly with my MSI Z170 Xpower Gaming Titanium edition should be able to overclock to 3600 MHZ. This is couple with I7 6700k. So what am I doing wrong?

thanks for the help.

Solution

1. Mixing RAM from 2 different packages.

2. Typically when saving to a profile, doesn't switch you to using that profile. You now have to tell it to "Load from Profile 1"

3. You may need to boost DRAM voltage a bit to get it to work.

Legit Reviews contacted Intel about the safe voltage range on DDR4 memory and we received this response.

“1.5v is the absolute max we allow for XMP certifications. However, good DDR4 memory will run at 1.35v up to 3200. Technically, no “safe” (guaranteed) OC over-voltage but 1.35v or lower is best.” – Intel

1.2V or lower = Best for DDR4
1.35V = okay...

The kits are definitely identical. And it says it tries to load the overclock profile I saved from from (profile 1) I guess I'll try to to up the voltage...but these things come factory ready for 2800mhz at 1.25 volts. At least thats what the package says.
