Keyboard and Mouse Stop Working, Windows Installation

So, started installing windows today, and I got to the point where it asks to pick a username for your computer. Before that my keyboard and mouse worked fine, but as soon as it got to the username point, both mouse and keyboard turned off. Any tips?

Installing Windows 7 Ult on a MSI z97 Gaming 5 mobo; Let me know if you need more details

usb keyboard/mouse, wireless dongle type? , or the purple green connectors? Personally, i have a stash of the old types with purple/green connections, and usually have to bring them out sometimes when reinstalling OS on various boredom project computers.
