Hi, I was given a 4K TV as a monitor for Xmas.

Will adding a second GPU help me render at 4K 60 Hz? I currently have an EVGA GeoForce 960 4GB ACX 2.0+ on a Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 3 motherboard.

any suggestions on what I should buy? same card?

thanks!!

4k/60fps isn't really "light gaming"...
If you're playing older/not demanding games you might be able to run 4K/60fps on your 960, especially if you turn down settings. Have you tried gaming on your new TV already but weren't satisfied with the results?

I would not go for SLI if that is what you are asking. If you are wanting to game at 4k, you'll want a 980ti/1070/1080. If you are just wanting to use it as a monitor and not to game on it, then basically anything that has a HDMI 2.0 or SOME that have a HDMI 1.4 should be able to push it at 60hz (but not for gaming).

so, if I went for a 980ti/1070/1080, should I sell the 960, or leave it in for extra GPU? That's probably a stupid question, but I don't really know what I'm doing. :)

to use two nvidia cards together they need to be the same model. so if you get a 980 ti , 1070, 1080, then sell the 960 becuase you wont really have any use of it.

if you do just want to buy another 960, that works too but it will not be as powerful as the other 3 options.

BUT, what is your budget and what are you doing with your computer? playing games? which games? using office? editing?

I do some light gaming and don't want to spend more that $400. So if I sell the 960, I should be fine with a 1070 or maybe stretch to a 1080. Is the 1080 worth the extra $$$?

if youre doing "light" gaming... then i wouldnt spend any more money than gettng a 1070. that will let you play most games if not all games at 4k. the lightweight games like league of legends, dota, csgo will run flawlessy. games like the witcher, battlefield 1 and *insert graphically intense game here* will need the settings turned down some amount to run smoothly
