Borderlands 2-FPS Drops When in Combat with multiple enemies

Hey guys, i need help. I am trying to play Borderlands 2 and it's disheartening to play it when i get constant FPS drops when in combat with more than usually 3 enemies. I need to know how to solve this as i have looked multiple places for a solution but nothing has occurred. PC Specs: GPU-GeForce GTX 970
Driver Version 376.33
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6800K CPU @ 3.4GHz
15.9 GB RAM
1920 X 1080, 144Hz Monitor

Yes. Usually when I'm just running around or in a vehicle I get upwards from 60-120 FPS. The most common average point is usually 80-90 FPS. When combat with multiple enemies occur, it usually dips down to downwards of 20-35 FPS. From there it spikes up and down, but it is definently displeasing.

try reinstalling or use geforce experience to optimize the game
