Basically I wanted to add a place holder GPU to my computer, however the GPU requires 300W minimum even thought the GPU only needs 65W itself but my PC's power supply can only support 240W maximum would this be a problem?

Side Question: How much does a PC without a GPU roughly use?

Solution
An i5 would be about 95W plus the 75W the motherboard can supply worst case, plus assorted other things. That's about 200W if you wanted to be safe. Your PSU is rated at 240W which doesn't leave a lot of headroom. That's IF that PSU even puts out 240W which is not likely. As for the card, there's no way you should spend that kind of money on that old a card. Also, if you have a slim case computer make sure you have space for the card you're considering.

My PC is an OEM (I think) I bought it from Staples.

It's a Dell Optiplex 390.

Motherboard model: Dell 0F6X5P
Graphics Card: Geforce GT 440

BTW should there be a wire for my GPU attached to my PSU?
