I recently brought my desktop computer out of storage and booted it up for the first time in about a year and half. Everything seems to work properly and the specs are better than I remember, but the graphics card is only an Nvidia Quadro 2000d. This was fine for gaming a few years ago, but now comes nowhere near running modern games.
The rig I've been using in the meantime is an Alienware 15 notebook with an Nvidia GTX 970m 3GB. This has the opposite problem that my desktop does: Great graphics card trapped inside of a notebook with a mediocre processor and low RAM.
While not using my desktop, I bought an Alienware 15 notebook with an Nvidia GTX 970m. The gaming experience has been mostly great, aside from the obvious negatives of being on a notebook (mediocre processor, low RAM, only one hard drive, etc).
My question is, what exact graphics card will I want to upgrade my desktop? I would like it to be as close of an equivalent to the 970m as possible, but I'm also on a pretty tight budget (preferably nothing above $200). I want to get the most value out of a card for the lowest possible price. I don't know a whole lot about the technical side of things, so researching graphics cards is proving to be a tad overwhelming. I have looked at many threads on hear asking the same question but there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer, so I decided to just ask for my specific situation.

Tl;dr - I would like a graphics card that is close to or better than the GTX 970m for less than $200. Paying the lowest amount of money for the highest amount of value is important. What card would you recommend? Any help is appreciated.

Edited for typos.

Power supply is Cooler Master M2 Silent Pro 620W and processor is Intel Core i7-4930K CPU @ 3.40GHz 3.7GHz.
I'm a little hesitant to switch over to AMD since I've been using Nvidia for as long as I can remember and I've never had a problem with them. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Nvidia has any cards that even come close to those for that price so it may be something to consider.
