Hello. Just got a new GPU (RX 470) and a 500W power supply. Power supply is in and working fine but whenever I plug in my new GPU I get no signal.

1. Tried disabling the onboard card via device manager then shutting down and plugging in the new GPU- no signal.
2. Tried to find the drivers for the new card and download preemptively but couldn't fully install because the hardware wasn't actually plugged in... I feel kind of stupid about this one... might be more to this? (My GPU came without a disc- Gigabyte)
3. I looked in my BIOS for the option to disable my on-board graphics card but no such option exists.

I finally just put my old card back in.

Not sure what specs you guys need but here's some stuff-

OS: Windows 7 64 bit
Old video card was a radeon HD 6450
Processor: i5 quad core

Not sure what else to include.

Thanks for any help!

That doesn't tell me much /... EVGA has several model lines, some of which should generally be avoided.

W1 - avoid
B1 - avoid
G2 - fine
GS - fine

cont'd from 1st post ...

3. Drivers would have been included on the CD in the box BTW.

4. The recommended procedure to install the card is:

a) Make sure you have already done this which should be done on 1st day of build:
Turn off Windows ability to install Hardware drivers
http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/8013-windows-update-

b) Download new drivers.

c) Uninstall all things AMD (drivers, utilities, etc)

d) Shut down and remove card, connect to IGP

e) Reboot and don't let Windows reinstall anything if it finds new hardware.

f) Use a registry cleaner to remove any entries in...

did you plug in the monitor to the card and not the motherboard?

does the card have a pcie plug? Did you populate it?

have you updated your bios to the newest one available at the motherboard manufacturer's website?

Do you have a pre-build? If so you need to go into the bios and disable secure boot, and enable legacy mode.

Yes i plugged the monitor to the card and not the motherboard.

PCI-E plug... that's the cord coming from the power supply, yes? If so- then yes. 8 pins.

I have not updated my bios- I'll go try this!

And if by pre-build you mean i bought it from a place like dell or somewhere already built- then yes it is a pre-build.

I'll try disabling secure boot first though i guess.

Thanks I'll let ya know how it goes!

1. The card needs a 400 watter, not saying yours is good quality wise as don't know what it is but if it can deliver its rarted voltage, you should be fine.

2. The rated TDP for the Radeon RX 470 at stock clocks is 110W, so a PCI-E connector is required. Is the PCI-E cable firmly plugged into the card

3. Drivers would have been included on the CD in the box BTW.

c) Uninstall all things AMD (drivers, utilities, etc)

d) Shut down and remove card, connect to IGP

e) Reboot and don't let Windows reinstall anything if it finds new hardware.

f) Use a registry cleaner to remove any entries in registry that have AMD listed in one of the columns. Remove nothing else. Using CCleaner, check just one category at a time, and then in right panel uncheck the top box to clear all checkmarks in right panel. Check ONLY those items which say AMD on one of the columns. Alternately you can use one of the driver uninstall utilities on Guru3D website, tho with drivers caming out at such a rapid rate of late, the utilities have a hard time keeping up.

g) Shut own and install card, make sure to connect power cable and move monitor cable to card

h) Boot up and don't let windows install anything if it tries to.

i) install new drivers.

The power supply is got is the EVGA 500W Plus. I have the pins securely connected and the video card fans come on and it lights up with its neon lights and what have you. I don't think it's the motherboard either as my old cards works fine plugged in to it.
