Hi, I've been trying to overclock my cpu (i5 6600k skylake) to a 4ghz overclock on a gigabyte motherboard and I try typing in 40 as the multiplyer but nothing changes? And I when I hit + on the num pad it will NOT go past 3.9ghz. I don't why this is, I haven't changed the voltage as I do not wish to increase it more than the stock voltage so if anyone knows why I cannot get 4ghz overclock please let me know!

Solution
I believe you need a z170 motherboard to overclock fully thats why. H series motherboards only offer limited overclocking abilities. But 3.9ghz should be plenty for gaming. Unfortunately there is nothing you can really do except get a proper z170 mobo

if you do not raise voltage too much and keep temps under control you will upgrade to a new cpu before it dies. Might reduce life by 5-10% but no one knows for sure, might not, every chip is different. Cpu's last 20+ years so your motherboard will most likely die first.
