Hello everyone, I'm interested in upgrading my PC and wanted to know what the right upgrade path would be (which parts to get, order that I get them, etc.). My current configuration-

GPU- GTX 1080 FE
RAM- 8 GB DDR3
HDD- WD Blue 4TB
SSD- 450 GB PNY
CPU- i7 2600
PSU- EVGA 750w SuperNova Gold
MOBO- ASROCK Extreme LGA1155 Motherboard

I'm looking into upgrading the CPU, RAM (mines only DDR3), and the MOBO since it is an old LGA 1155. Should I get an i7 6700k or will I not see much of a performance boost? Or should I wait for the new processors AMD is releasing? Also which order should I go for upgrading my machine?

Hi Alec,

Recently the new Intel Kaby Lake CPUs were released with higher core and turbo clock speeds so it may be worth looking into those as they may offer higher overclocking potential. However, there are a limited amount of motherboards that have been released as yet and here in the UK there is a 15% price difference between Kaby Lake and Skylake so if I were you I would partner up a 6700k with a decent motherboard, or just a 6700 (non k) if you aren't going to be overclocking.

Currently I don't know how high end the RyZen CPUs are going to be. In my opinion I think they will counter the i5 6600k / 7600k rather than the 6700k. They may be able to but I am not sure. RyZen is due for release in Q1 2017 so within the next couple of months so if the upgrade is not urgent then maybe wait it out.

Hope I could help,
Kieran

The new Kaby lake cpu's arent even much different. I looked at some benchmarks and the biggest difference was 3fps at stock speeds. Its ridiculous. Intel has stoppped innovating for now. I wouldnt get a Kaby if i were you.

I know. I really hope for promising things with RyZen; hopefully AMD will then offer some sort of competition in the CPU market. I wish that RyZen combats Kaby Lake like Polaris did Pascal. Intel doesn't seem to be doing anything for the customer.

The 5Ghz on air stuff with AMD is looking pretty interesting. Im excited to see what happens.
