I'm sorry to hear about your issues with the WD external HDD.
However, I'd kindly ask you to share more details about the troubleshooting you have done so far. If you have access to another working PC/laptop, I'd advise you to check how the external WD drive is recognized there. Since you have trouble detecting it on your PC, you should definitely try swapping the USB port and the USB cable that is connecting the drive to the computer.
I'd also strongly recommend backing up all important data from the external HDD as soon as you gain access to its contents. This is how you will avoid the potential data loss. Afterwards, it might be a good idea to run the QUICK and EXTENDED tests from our
