This question involves a long story but I will spare you the details. Basically I believe my gtx 1080 may be defective and I contacted MSI to see what they had to say. They brought it to my attention that I should make sure if my motherboard is able to fully support a gtx 1080 before I send it in to them. I believe that the 1080 was causing my computer to randomly shut off and then restart itself because since switching to my gtx 750 again I have not had a single issue with the computer ever doing this again. Does the Asus sabertooth 990fx fully support a gtx 1080? The specs of my full build are as follows:
AMD fx 8350
16 GBs DDR 3 ram at 1866MHz
gtx 1080 founders edition
asus sabertooth 990fx r2.0
thermaltake 650w power supply
Now this actually leads me into one more question someone might be able to answer. The support member also said to make sure I was using at least a 750w power supply. Is it possible that I actually just need a larger PSU? I ran some checks with a few different calculators and none of them came up over 400w for my build but I figure someone here may know more than me and be able to tell me if maybe a PSU upgrade might be able to fix this problem before I send in the card.
