£690, pre built and pre overclocked to 4.6GHz and 24hr stress tested:

https://www.scan.co.uk/products/3xs-overclocked-bundle-z170-oc15-intel-core-i7-6700k-skylake-46ghz-asus-z170-pro-gaming-16gb-corsair

I genuinely need an overclocked CPU for a certain game I play and I'd rather spend my time actually gaming than learning the whole overclocking process from scratch. I've added up the individual cost of all the components (allbeit on scans own website) and it comes to £690.45 so it turns out scan aren't charging anything to assemble, overclock and stress test.

Surely that's a no brainer for someone who just wants to game?

Individual costs:

CPU - £338.48
Mobo: £154.99
Cooler - £86.99
RAM - £109.99 (I think)

Total - £690.45

Then all I do is sell my current kit on ebay to get a good chunk of the money back. Only headache to me would be having to do a fresh Windows 10 install (I'm not even sure how that works now as I upgraded my Win8 to Win10 so don't have a product key as such anymore??!!)

Just to add, which bundle would be better (purely for gaming), the one above or this one:

i have 3000mhz ram and if i reset the bios for whatever reason it runs at a lower speed until i go back in the bios and enable xmp

but to be honest i dont even notice the difference

a benchmark would probably show a difference but for me any way real life use doesnt

so yes the better cooler would be my choice over the faster ram

1. If you wish to use your current OS license, you must read and do this before you do anything with te old system:
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-3164428/windows-build-1607-activation.html

That takes care of the licensing and activation.

2. For those parts? eh...nothing special.
That liquid cooler is mostly useless. No better that the good air coolers, but twice the price.
Liquid with a 240mm radiator would be much better.

What are you doing for hard drives, case, PSU?

if individually it costs the same then yes thats really good

normally i would expect a £60--£80 markup for the assembly and testing

though getting a 6700k to 4.6ghz wouldnt take much effort any way

personally i would like a 240mm aio on it at 4.6ghz not a 120mm

tie your windows to a microsoft account that makes reinstalling much easier--you just click the i dont have a key option during set up

though not sure how it works with a motherboard change--if its retail not oem windows you may be ok though might or might not need to do phone activation

edited---doh he beat me to it again--bet you didnt even copy and paste this time--one day i really must learn to type properly lol

Thanks guys, the second bundle I linked does have a bigger radiator and 2x fans but lower frequency RAM. As for the other parts I'll be using my current system that's in my forum signature.

Fair enough so maybe the second bundle is the way to go then. I was going to buy the 1080ti when it finally comes out but it seems the game I play has me CPU bound so I may as well work on that first.
