Ryzen with M5A97 r2.0 motherboard

Ryzen is completely different and like CountMike said works with am4 only. That means ddr4 ram and the motherboards have made other improvements. Pcie 3.0, usb 3.1, basically catching up on all the features previously lacking on am3+.
